The Henderson Group remains in the retail grocery business more than 120 years on but has expanded and diversified significantly. Henderson Retail owns and operates 95 SPAR and EUROSPAR stores in Northern Ireland.

Henderson Retail is one of the top players in the UK independent market and Northern Ireland’s largest independent fuel site operator. The business continues to receive industry recognition for its achievements.


The Henderson Group wanted to recognise and reward its 4,000 + employees in the organisation through a policy of staff discount at their company-owned stores run by Henderson Retail. Henderson’s began their journey with Azpiral, world-class loyalty technology providers, to create an automated employee reward and engagement programme.

This was important for Henderson’s as they have employees across multiple businesses. This plug and play platform which is fully integrated to the Henderson Technology Edgepos EPOS solution enabled The Henderson Group to implement its requirements both easily and quickly. AzpiralPRO’s easy to use interface meant they could customise and deliver rewards and communications to their employees efficiently.

Azpiral’s integration to Henderson Technology Edgepos solution via API meant that deployment to 100 stores could be delivered seamlessly. AzpiralPRO is a SAAS solution and so negates the requirement for on-site costly hardware and time-consuming data management by merchants.


Being fully integrated to the EPOS enables two-way communications between AzpiralPRO and Edgepos. This two-way functionality enables The Henderson Group to operate a dynamic range of discount benefits to their staff in real-time and communicate with them effortlessly.

This solution has worked for Henderson Group resulting in genuine engagement from their employees. As a result of the reward and engagement programme success, the programme has been implemented across a further 38 independent franchised stores.


Recently, the Henderson Group used the programme to recognise their employees for their frontline contribution during the COVID-19 crisis by giving their employees double discount days for specified periods.
