I spent a week in Azpiral learning about how the company works and the various roles involved in keeping the company ticking. I gained an insight into many key elements including development, customer service and marketing.
The week started off in exciting fashion with the Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Pat Breen paying a visit to officially open the office.
After speaking to him the day quietened down and I got shown part of the development process. I spent the rest of Monday testing and checking logs for errors. It was interesting to give this a go as it was something completely new for me and it showed me what it would be like working in the development process.
On my second day here, I continued to learn about how the product development operates. I was shown the scrum development process and was allowed to stay for the daily scrum. I got to see how they stayed on top of their workload during this daily scrum by making sure everyone knew what they had to do that day.
After that, I was given the chance to go downstairs to the customer service office. There I got to see what it was like to work in a louder environment than the development office. I got to see what it was like for the people who were dealing with customers.
On Thursday Matthew showed me around the comms room and showed me what he had to do to help keep the servers running. After that, I was shown what was involved in the marketing side of the business. I was shown how they optimize the content they produce to reach as many people as possible.
On my last day, I was given the chance to watch the sprint review meeting where everyone met to ensure they had reached their goals for this period. To finish off I learned some basic coding with James to help me learn more about what is involved in the IT side of the business.
Thanks to everyone in Azpiral for welcoming me into the business for my week of work experience.
